NACOR Participants Should Report MIPS Data by January 31, 2024 Deadline

The first 2023 MIPS reporting deadline for National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry (NACOR) participants is January 31, 2024. NACOR members participating in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for 2023 should plan to submit:

  • Data from January – November 2023: MIPS participants or their groups are encouraged to upload data files well before the deadline to take advantage of reviewing their data and submitting corrected files as needed.
  • Attestation of 2023 Improvement Activities: Groups must include date ranges that the improvement activity was performed. Groups can review a NACOR step-by-step tutorial on attesting to an IA. For practices with multiple Tax ID Numbers (TIN), make sure the correct TIN is listed in the drop-down menu before attesting to the activity. As participants of NACOR, practices can attest to activity IA_PSPA_1: Participation in an AHRQ-listed patient safety organization. This is a medium-weighted activity worth 10 points.
  • Reconciliation of provider list: MIPS participants and groups must ensure all NPIs are assigned the proper provider type (MD-Anesthesia, CRNA, DO, AA, SRNA, Resident, etc.).
  • Provider submission consents for clinicians reporting as individuals.

NACOR Approved as a Qualified Registry and QCDR for 2024 MIPS Reporting

AQI NACOR was recently approved as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) as well as a Qualified Registry by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Physician anesthesiologists, qualified anesthesia providers, and other clinicians seeking to report MIPS in 2024 will be able to use NACOR for their quality, improvement activities, and promoting interoperability MIPS performance categories.

CMS also approved AQI's QCDR measures for 2024. The book includes lists of approved QCDR measures and their specifications, list of available MIPS measures to report via NACOR, changes to measure specifications from 2023 to 2024, and a list of retired QCDR measures. The reporting rate requirement for 2024 is 75% of all cases to which the measure applies.

AQI will also be supporting over 50 improvement activities for attestation purposes. When choosing improvement activities for 2024, please make sure that you review and can meet the updated specifications and validation criteria.

The ASA website has been updated with MIPS regulatory changes for 2024. Please review the quality and improvement activities criteria, as well as the MIPS Value Pathway link, for relevant reporting information.

Email qra@asahq.org with any questions on MIPS rules and regulations.

Review Your NACOR Dashboard Monthly

AQI encourages physician and staff quality champions to review their group’s NACOR dashboard each month. Routine dashboard reviews will help champions monitor group performance as well as pinpoint any problems or errors with submitted data files.
